Let’s roll some dice and battle!

What is it?

The Roll into Battle: A Dice Throne Tournament is a unofficial, four week long, online, Dice Throne tourney, consisting of swiss rounds with no top cut. In this tournament, you will have a week to play your round and are required to bring three heroes, ban 1. You will play your opponent in a best 2 out of 3 games, where you must win with both of your heroes. You can find out the details of this tournament below in the Format section.

When is it? 

The Roll into Battle: A Dice Throne Tournament will start on Monday November 4th, 2024. This will be a swiss only event with no top cut. All players will participate in every round!

Each round’s pairings will be posted on Sunday via challonge and on dmNorthTV discord in #tournament-pairings (you must add the role “Tournament Participants” for yourself under #roles). Then you and your opponent should schedule a time to play your games for the week. The games just need to be completed by the following Sunday by 10 PM Eastern, then the next round will start. If all players have completed their games earlier than Sunday, the next round may be announced sooner.  In the event you are having trouble arranging your game during the allowed time, please tag “@DT Tournament Admins” in the dmNorthTV Discord and we will do our best to work with you.

Players should expect up to 4 rounds with one opponent per round. As such players should expect the tournament to last approximately 4 weeks. However you will only ever be expected to play one opponent per week and at a mutually agreeable time. In the event that there is more than one undefeated player at the end of 4 weeks, only those players will play in week 5 for a championship match.

What do I need?

All you will need is a computer with internet access, along with a web camera to use with Discord.  All links will be provided during the Tournament.  Oh yeah… and your Dice Throne Heroes.  There are limited selection of proxy heroes that you can use that will require you to print the board, cards and will need d6’s dice. Please dm SuperK on Discord.

Roll into Battle: A Dice Throne Tournament will be capped at 16 Players.

If you should sign up after the cap has been met, you will be put on a waiting list in case players drop before the event.

How do I sign up?

You will need to register for this Roll into Battle: A Dice Throne Tournament via Challonge.

The deadline for Hero Submission is 10:00 PM Eastern Time on Friday November 1st, 2024.  This is a hard deadline. Failure to submit on time will result in an automatic removal from the tournament. 

Players on the waiting list will also need to submit their heroes by this time. In the event that a player is removed the next person on the waiting list will be added.

What is the Format?

The format for this tournament is a MUST bring 3 heroes, Ban 1, Best of 3 games. 

• The three heroes will remain the same throughout the tournament (no changes)
• Allowed Heroes (see below on details)
• Bring 3 heroes, Ban 1 (see below on details)
• Each round of the tournament will be played as a best 2 out of 3 games
• Time for each game: 40 minutes (see below for details)
• No Banned heroes
• Promo and Mythic cards will not be allowed
• Updated rulebook 2.4.1 to be used

ALLOWED HEROES:

• Dice Throne Season One
  • Heroes: Barbarian, Moon Elf, Pyromancer, Shadow Thief, Monk, Paladin, Ninja and Treant

• Dice Throne Season Two 
  • Required: Updated leaflets for Tactician, Huntress and Vampire. Most recent copies of Tactician, Huntress and Vampire are provided with updated leaflet. You can verify your copy/print a copy here
  • Heroes: Samurai, Gunslinger, Tactician, Huntress, Artificer, Cursed Pirate, Seraph and Vampire

• Marvel Dice Throne Heroes
  • Required: Updated leaflets for Thor and Spider-Man. You can verify your copy/print a copy here
  • Heroes: Black Panther, Captain Marvel, Thor, Miles Morales: Spider-Man, Loki, Scarlet Witch, Dr. Strangle and Black Widow

• Santa vs Krampus Heroes
  • Heroes: Santa and Krampus

BRING 3, BAN 1:

Each player is required to bring three heroes of their choice. Each player will ban one hero from the three heroes the opponent has chosen. The banned hero can not be used for all games in the round.

To determine ban hero (follow order):

• Each player will roll a d6 die
• Highest value wins
• The winner of the die roll can:
  • Determine who will be the first player to ban one of the three Dice Throne Heroes (either themselves or their opponent). After the first person has banned a hero from their opponent’s set of three Dice Throne Heroes, their opponent will then ban 1 of their three.

Why do I need three heroes?

This is a Bring 3 Ban 1 tournament. Each round of the tournament will be played as a best 2 out of 3 games with 2 heroes that were not banned. Further, once you have won a game with one of your heroes you will need to win with your other hero for the second win. That’s right, in order to win the round you must win a game with each of your heroes! This means that the winner of game 1 must switch their hero for game 2. The loser of game 1 may switch their hero or continue to use the same hero. In game 3 each player must use their hero that they haven’t won a game with previously. Remember, the goal is to win with each of your both your heroes.

How long is each Round?

We will be running a swiss only tournament with no top cuts. The number of rounds will be capped at 4 for this tournament.  

You will play up to 3 games and each game will have a 40 minute time limit. See below for running out of time. Whichever player wins 2 of the 3 games will be declared the winner of the round. Remember, they need to have a win with each of their heroes!

If one player wins both game 1 and game 2, you do not need to play game 3. You may still do so for fun, but it should not be reported in the scores.

What happens if there isn’t a winner after 40 minutes?

Should a game reach the 40 minute time limit, and neither player has been reduced to 0 life, the following will occur:

• The active player will complete their turn
• The inactive player will have one turn in retaliation (equal number of turns)

If no player was reduced to 0 life, the player with the highest life total will be declared the winner of that game. If both players have the same amount of life remaining (after the inactive player’s retaliation turn), then each player will be given one additional turn before comparing life totals again. Repeat this process of giving both players one more turn as needed until life is no longer tied or player life is at 0.

How do we decide ban hero and starting player/hero?

At the start of the round, each player with display their three heroes on their play area.

To determine ban hero (follow order):

• Each player will roll a d6 die
• Highest value wins
• The winner of the die roll can:
  • Determine who will be the first player to ban one of the three Dice Throne Heroes (either themselves or their opponent). After the first person has banned a hero from their opponent’s set of three Dice Throne Heroes, their opponent will then ban 1 of their three.

To determine starting player/hero (follow order):

• Each player will roll a d6 die
• Highest value wins
• The winner of the die roll can:
  • Choose to be first player and be the first to select 1 of their own two Dice Throne heroes.
    OR
  • Have the opponent (the other player) be first player and that player selects 1 of their 2 Dice Throne heroes. 

In subsequent games, the loser of the previous game will have the choice of if they would like to go first or second.

How do I report the winner of a Round?

When your games are over, the loser of the match will report the results in the #match-reporting channel of the Discord.

You should use the format “@winnername over @losername 2-1”.

Do you allow Proxies?

YES. 

There are limited selection of proxy heroes that you can use that will require you to print the board, cards and will need d6’s die. Please dm SuperK on Discord.

If you are choosing to use proxy board/cards/dice, they must be declared prior to game start so your opponent is aware of what you are using.

There is no prizing for this event, but should you win, we encourage you to brag to all your friends and family, and be sure to spam your win everywhere on all Social Medias, tagging #dicethrone.
