Organized Play Lives?

Hopefully you tuned into our Trivia stream on Twitch, where we may have shown a few goodies.  For those that didn’t check out the VOD replay on Twitch, or catch it on the YouTubes here.

We received some prize support for our recent Roll For The North, and it included a little treat that we are able to share with you.  In this package were three NEW blue striped cards.  As most of you know, the blue stripes are usually indicative of some type of a promo cards.  Many of these are from Organized Play kits or prizing support.  Given the characters used and the numbering, we are making an educated guess that these cards belong to the Organized Play variety.  Here is what we got:

Let’s look a little closer at these guys…

Typhoid Mary – Violent Tendencies

Art Source:  Deadpool #50, Carlo Barberi interal art.

This is a new version of Mary.  She now has the Energize ability.  It is actually a pretty cool ability as well.  I am all over being able to give your entire board of Sidekicks a nice stat buff… AND Overcrush.  The purchase cost may hurt her to some extent, but I am looking forward to giving this card a try.

Spider-Man – Wall-Crawler of Forest Hills

Art Source: Amazing Spider-man #26, Dan Mora variant cover

Spider-man gets a discount the first time you purchase him each game.  Discounts are always good.  Also, he now has the Recruit keyword.  If you are unfamiliar with Recruit, check out our Keyword Korner video that covers the basics.  I am not personally sold on Recruit yet, but maybe it will have a place somewhere.  This might be a niche card that people try to build around, but there are a few superior Spider-men out there than this one.

Slingers – Basic Action Card

Art Source:  Amazing Spider-man #23, Vol 2. Renew Your Vows, Eduard Petrovich cover.

This one is interesting.  First, it has a force attack Global Ability on it.  I believe it may be the first BAC to have this type of a Global on it.  This allows you to free up a character slot on your Team if you need this ability but do not want to waste the slot on it.  The action ability itself is kind of interesting, but feels like it could easily back-fire on you.  Definitely something that might be fun to build around with.  Maybe the above Mary?

Of special note on these cards is the numbering.  If you look closely at the pictures, you will see that these are number 2, 4, and 6 respectively.  If this numbering holds true, these are likely from three different OP Kits.  There should be cards numbered 1, 3, and 5 to go with them.  We don’t know what those are yet.

The other interesting thing I took away from these (at least Spider-man and Slingers) is the Spider-man theme.  Perhaps the long forgotten Spider-man set still exists somewhere?

The big takeaway from all of this is the Organized Play looks like it will still be a thing.  I for one am glad to see this.  It was great getting these prizes for showing up to the local FLGS.  Hopefully, we are able to do this and get ourself back to somewhat normal.

Thank you again to Wizkids for sharing this unexpected surprise with us.  We were more than happy to share it with the Community.  Thank you to the anonymous reader who let us know where the card art came from.

So… what do you think?  Happy to see that Organized Play is still in the cards?  Care to start speculating on what cards #1, 3, and 5 might be?  If you were to choose the card to get the alternate art treatment, what would you choose?  When and how do you think these will get released?

Let us know in the comments below.

Thanks for reading!
