dmNorthTV plays … Survive: Escape from Atlantis!

dmNorthTV and Guests play board games!!  Saturday nights, we get together with friends and try and play a stream friendly board game.  It is usually a fun get together with great people.  A time to enjoy to social aspect of gaming that we are lacking right now.

Here, you will find our short and sweet review on the board game we have played from each of the players.  We stream the gameplay on the dmNorthTV Twitch channel every other Saturday.  Come hangout and say “Hi” if you get a chance.

This week, we played through Survive: Escape from Atlantis!. Survive is a cutthroat game where the players are trying to get their people to safety before the island sinks but be aware other players are trying to sabotage you plus the Sharks, Sea Monsters and Whales oh my!

We at dmNorthTV was joined by comicsmike to see who will survive.  You can take a look at our gameplay video on our YouTube channel, or scroll on down to see what we thought of the game.

Final Thoughts About . . . Survive: Escape from Atlantis!

Here, we will give you some basic thoughts about the game we played.  This is by no means meant to be an in-depth review of the game, as there are already lots of those out there.  This is just a “what did we think of it and would it be a good board game night game” type thing.  If you want to see something more in-depth, please let us know in the comments below.

100% a must add for any board game collection.  All ages will enjoy the chaos that this game brings.  Very simple mechanics makes it easy for anyone to learn the game.  As you saw in our game, very few of your characters will actually make it to shore… and that is the fun part.  What can you do to mess up the other people?  I have never had a bad experience playing this game, and playing online was no exception.  Grab a copy if you get a chance!

This is my first time playing Survive. I actually owned it at one point but it never made the table. What a fun game! Very easy to learn and great for all ages. I liked the cutthroat part as it wasn’t to over the top but just right. I think you need to have at least 4+ players for this one. If you’re looking for a family game, this is a must.

This game holds a personal favorite as one of my all time games I have ever played. This version was the 30th anniversary but I remember owning one if the original versions. As you can see in the gameplay video this game was cutthroat from turn 1 and always twists and turns as the players try to swindle and escape the sinking island. Its definitely more fun with 3+ players and always comes down to the luck of the survival numbers on the bottom of the meeples. When I hear people doing reviews for games like forbidden island and saying it’s a great game they have never probably tried survive as its far ahead of that game. Survive is a game that is always on my first shelf of games and always will be. The game pieces are excellent in design and I know with the redone version there were issues with the tiles that you could tell which colour they were underneath but they fixed it and offered replacement tiles to anyone that had a bad version. The expansion pack with the giant squid and dolphins makes it even more chaotic. This is a game for all ages and I would highly recommend it for every single persons board game collection. It’s easily a 5 meeple in my books and if there was a game that would get a 6 it’s this one.

Survive is chaotic at time because the other players are sending different sea monsters to eat your people. You are trying to get your little people off the sinking island and to one of the four corners of the board. Your little people can ride boats, or swim to get there. I managed to get the most people to safety, but still almost lost because the people are worth different point. I always have fun being mean to my friends and family while playing this great Stronghold game.
