dmNorthTV and Guests play board games!! Saturday nights, we get together with friends and try and play a stream friendly board game. It is usually a fun get together with great people. A time to enjoy to social aspect of gaming that we are lacking right now.
Here, you will find our short and sweet review on the board game we have played from each of the players. We stream the gameplay on the dmNorthTV Twitch channel every other Saturday. Come hangout and say “Hi” if you get a chance.
This week, we played through Camel Up. Camel Up is a racing game (for 2 to 8 players) where you are betting on which camel will come out on top. Bet wisely, as you never know what can happen (like Camels hitching a ride on top of each other :p).
This week, we were joined by comicsmike, JackalopeSpam and QueenSpam to see who was the best at betting. You can take a look at our gameplay video on our YouTube channel, or scroll on down to see what we thought of the game.
Final Thoughts About . . . Camel Up
Here, we will give you some basic thoughts about the game we played. This is by no means meant to be an in-depth review of the game, as there are already lots of those out there. This is just a “what did we think of it and would it be a good board game night game” type thing. If you want to see something more in-depth, please let us know in the comments below.

Camel Up is on the lighter side of games, and that is not a bad thing. Sometimes you need something simple on game night and this fits that slot easily. Just when you think you have the race figured out, a quick jump from a camel can destroy all your plans (I’m looking at you white camel). The highs and lows of gambling are felt while playing. A great game to play with your group if you want something a little easier on the brain.

This is my 2nd time playing Camel Up and I forgot how fun and quick of a game it is, though I am really bad at betting. It’s a light betting system, nothing crazy and very simple to learn. I would rather a little bit more strategy/game play, if that makes sense. That’s where my 3 meeples rating occurs but If you are looking for a quick, fun, light and family game, Camel Up! for 4 meeples.

Camel Up is a fun game with a bunch of timing choices. I had fun though the whole race. Watch out for how the camels get stacked because the one in the back can sneak up out of nowhere.

Camel Up is great fun! I really enjoy games of chance that still allow for strategic plays. We play this game once in a while with my family and the parents have fun with the gambling aspect. I think it’s a light game with simple rules but those camels keep you on your toes the whole game! I would definitely recommend Camel Up for a casual group game night.

One must question the thematic components of Camel Up. You’re racing camels around the pyramids of Egypt, which is fine. However, these appear to be Bactrian camels which are native to Central Asia. Further the Dromedary is the standard for camel races. Fun fact, dromedary is even derived from the Greek word dramein which means “to run”. Thematic issues aside, I still had fun. It’s light weight and great for large player counts, up to 8! You’re not actually camels in the race but instead of betting on them. You constantly bet against probabilities and cheer at the improbable odds of a come from behind camel win! Overall it’s good for a chill game night. I tend to prefer games with a bit more depth and strategy, so it’s not a game I’d suggest but I wouldn’t turn down a play.
