Welcome to Mutation, a series of articles where we want to spotlight the “extras” that you can bring to Dice Masters. Why Mutation? Well, it represents a fundamental change in something. An evolution of sorts. Also, there is that nice Basic Action Card that shares the name. It seemed to make sense to connect these together to represent what this series is meant to be about.
We are always working on growing our collection of tutorials to help bring your game to the next level. Want to learn how to make your own cards? How about customizing your own play-mat? Looking for come cool dice tower projects? This is where you want to be.
If you have something you want to share with the Dice Masters community, drop us an email at mailbag@dm-north.com and let us know. We look forward to sharing these projects with you. As always, please feel free to leave your comments below and let us know what you think.
Now, on to today’s project… This is actually a re-post from something we ran back in the Spring of 2017. It was a custom campaign our local players created to run through the story of Injustice. Read on for the details.
Organized Play Event
Based off of the story of the Injustice comic books and video game, comes a multi-week campaign filled with Dice Masters action. The campaign is currently designed to run 4 weeks with scores carrying over from week to week. This can be run with a minimum of 2 players and up to any number, but any even number of players works the best. The basic breakdown of the set-up is as follows:
- Each player will be assigned to either Regime (Team Superman) or Insurgency (Team Batman). Team Batman players cannot play against other Team Batman players, and same for Team Superman.
- Batman/Superman will be a 9th character on the team, and are designated as the Team Leaders.
- Each team will have a max dice limit of 21 (20 plus the starting leader die).
- Each player starts the game with a Batman/Superman die in the bag.
- Decks are restricted to DC sets only, including BAC’s.
- Teams must have cards from their appointed side as listed below. DC cards not on the list are considered neutral. All non-BAC are neutral. Teams can have no more than 2 neutral cards.
- All alternate universe characters are neutral.
- The Flash and Barry Allen is Regime for the first half of the event and Insurgency for the second half.
- Each week, a new set of Promo cards will become legal for the remainder of the campaign.
- The Joker – Clown Prince of Crime may not target Superman.
- Bat-Mite is banned for the entire campaign.

- Winner of each match scores a point for their side.
- Players will gain 1 additional point for completing the goal of the week in each match that they play.
- Overall winner of the week scores an additional point for their side.
- Winning team of each week may pick a bonus for their team to be used in the next week.
- Leader Characters are 1 less to field.
- Leader Characters are 1 less to purchase.

- Losing team of each week may either ban a non-leader character (all versions from a set) or a single leader card for the remainder of the campaign.
- Prizing was cumulative week to week. At the end of the Campaign, the team with the most points got ALL of the prizing to distribute amongst themselves. You may choose to ignore this rule.

Haha I just got the DLC joke about Scorpion. Awesome thematic idea!
If this is ever to see play again it needs more balance. It favors Superman teams far too heavily. I can’t remember, but I think team superman walked away with the victory pretty easily, didn’t they?
I don’t remember how the scoring ended to be honest, but I agree that Superman had a little too much of an advantage. Mike had some good ideas like giving Batman Retaliation, which would be thematic. Also, I remember that Black Canary was a thorn and a little too powerful. I do want to revisit this as the story was just so good and so many things we did not even touch. *cough*God Cards*cough*
Please, we need another custom card event like this!
Injustice 2?
Stay tuned…
Yasss!
With the new Crisis of Infinite Earths hype, it is perfect time for something like that 🙂
Pretty good idea 🙂 I would totally see Psycho Pirate and others from the comics we’ve never seen in DM! 🙂
I would LOVE a Crisis on Infinite Earths event!
How can superman ko lois lane when they are on the same team?
That was part of the challenge. Take a look at the common S.T.A.R. Labs. 😉
